About Us

Victoria, BC, Canada
This blog began as a modern "baby book" for our first child, Finlay, who was born in December of 2010. The recent addition of Seamus, born in January of 2013, has meant continued efforts to put into words and pictures his early years. We also use this forum to catalog our family life: two loving partners, two beautiful kids, car-free, child-centred, attachment-focused, with a love of food and health thrown into the mix!

Last days at camp - August 21, 2010

Lyndze - The weather is turning on the West Coast.  It's a little cooler which means that the last camp season is just around the corner: fall.  Although we plan on returning in 2012, we can't help but get a little nostalgic.

It appears that we have lost our camera, with all of our pictures from Ontario on it, so we had a friend take a couple pictures for us yesterday so that we have something to show for the latest growth spurt.  As you'll see below, Andrew is quite the photographer.  We could have gotten more but I'm way too camera shy...

As you can see, there has been some growth.  I never realized how often pregnant people get stared at.  Now, when I walk around downtown I get lots looks, double-takes, and smiles.  It's pretty cool.

I went to my latest appointment with the midwife and got the results of the ultrasound.  All is well - Chick is pretty perfect.  We are having a text-book pregnancy.  I thought it was cool to learn that the measurements of the belly equal the number of weeks of pregnancy you are at.  My belly was exactly 24cm and I'm 24 weeks in.  Neat!  I was pretty shocked by the scale though.  I don't feel that big, or like I've gained much weight (until I try and stand up from sitting on the floor, I guess).  I've gained 16 pounds!  The weight gain is fine as I've had my 2nd trimester growth spurt but it seems like so much to me!  Now that I like food again I'll have to be careful.

The baby is really moving now.  A lot of kicking and wiggling.  I can actually see the kicking from the outside. Sometimes, when Asha cuddles up with me, she gets kicked but doesn't seem to mind.

Tyler:  All in all this last week and a half have been pretty busy.  Chick seems to me moving and kicking more then ever and is growing by the day.  The three of us attended a house concert that our friend James Burrows was playing at in a really cute apartment in Fernwood.  The music was primarily different strings, viola, guitar, banjo and double bass but spanned in genre.  Chick seemed to really appreciate all of it and was moving and kicking throughout the show.

We also have got into our "prenatal classes."  Which is good because we got the last spot in the September classes.  We are really happy because we think we found a pretty good teacher who focuses on the issues and ideals that we are interested in and we are looking forward to meeting some other soon-to-be parents   With that we've started to chat a little more about the birth plan and Lyndze has been reading up on all the different possibilities.  Last night at diner she asked me if  was interested in "catching" the baby...   I appreciate her asking but my guess is that if she had seen me during my little league days she may have thought twice before asking me if I wanted such a responsibility.

Well that is it for now!
